4 Ways to treat your Addiction

Alcoholism is an evil which has extended its evil grasp towards many. Most have succumbed to it, and some want to get themselves out of that stranglehold. With new breakthroughs and research there has been much development in the field of alcohol rehab. People can now get completely rid of their addiction problem without suffering from relapse or any other serious issues. There are now four recognized methods of alcohol treatment—

Medical Method.

Several types of drugs and medications are brought into use to combat the effects brought on by the complete withdrawal from alcohol. These effects if untreated make the addict go into relapse. Drugs like benzodiazepine are used to treat the patient during the first few days after the actual withdrawal. The medicine itself is highly addictive so it is administered in measured amounts and stopped after a few days. Another drug used is disulfiram which makes a person feel sick after ingesting alcohol; and lastly, naltrexone which helps a person remain sober.

Psychological Method

People take up alcohol for psychological reasons like stress or low self-esteem or grief. Thus, even if the medical method helps withdrawal from alcohol, it does not eliminate the psychological issues which brought out the addiction in the first place. Counseling helps the addict by bringing out the origin of the craving for liquor and seeks to aid the individual to get rid of it. It is always the Medical and the psychological method, in combination, which has proven extremely effective in alcohol rehab. In fact it is so effective that they are used in drug rehab in Orange County and other reputed rehab centers.

Spiritual Method

The spiritual method was popularized by people turning to religion for help. It is a 12 step program using the Bible and the Christian faith as standpoints to cure the addict. The steps are quite basic—acceptance of the temptation, belief in a higher power Who will deliver us from evil etc. The program lays stress on the ‘belief’ part as without it the program is of no use.

Holistic Method

The holistic method is a combination of the first three methods and some of the more unconventional methods. The combination is made in such a way so as to suit the specific needs of an individual thereby ensuring complete and effective recovery from the addiction. Reiki, Yoga, Meditation, Vitamin treatment, detox etc are all holistic methods of treatment. Some holistic programs aim specifically at old aged persons, women or teens.

So choose whichever method suits you and uproot the weed of alcoholism from your life. Do not wait.
