9 Ways to feel, "Yes, I can"

Making the bigger goals come true often requires the path that leads to it to be broken up into smaller and more definite goals. If the goal, you are working hard for, is your dream then every smaller goal if complete on the way is rewarding experience. But what if the bigger goal is something dealing with getting rid of a shame? What if the goal is getting rid of drug and alcohol abuse? You register yourself in various drug treatment programs. But sometimes the very reasons, which caused you to take up these evils, hamper your very path of abstaining from them. Then you start to think, “Can I really do it?” Well here are 9 ways to make you feel, “Yes, I can!”

Reward Yourself

Reward yourself or pamper yourself when you complete your short goals. You will feel good about them. Like if you don’t drink or take drugs for a week go ahead and spend that money on your favorite things—a new pair of shades or a new clothes!

Do it for those you love

Abstaining from liquor and drugs can be extremely difficult at first. Whenever you feel your resolve breaking and your defenses weakening, always think about your loved ones and how they love and care for you. You will find renewed vigor and determination.

Switch Places

If your peers offer you drinks or drugs, promptly deny politely and trade places with someone more willing. Remember it is your life and no one has the right to spoil it for you. Let others take care of themselves.

Seriously think about quitting

No amount of determination will work if you haven’t given it serious thought. Weigh your options carefully. If alcoholism and drug abuse are ruining your life, then my friend, it is time to quit.

Share your woes

Several support groups have formed which are dedicated to alcoholism and drug abuse. You will find many in the same ordeal as you. Share your misery with them and listen to them too. Talk to your friends.

Get it over with

It is your life. Don’t let alcohol and drugs get hold of you. Remove the temptations. It will be hard, I know, but it will be equally rewarding. So roll up your sleeves and dive headlong. Work like a soldier and combat the hideous truth of your life, “I’m an addict and I’m gonna stop being one!”

Get trained

Various treatment programs offer training and education to addicts to cope effectively with their situations. It is up to you too to do the necessary research and cultivate the proper skills to handle it. With proper training comes proper enthusiasm and determination.

Start running

Yes! Just don’t think about starting slow or taking it slow. Don’t limit your intake. Stop completely. It is an uphill task and without momentum you won’t reach the top.

Try and try

Finally, if you fail the first time, don’t give up. Keep trying. Figure out a different approach, but get it done. You can!
